Terms of Reference for the position:
Title: Senior Expert on Museum Educational Programs – full time (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday)
Contract: fixed term contract for 1 year- 3 months’ probation period- renewable upon positive performance evaluation
Reporting to: Senior Project Manager

ATS is a non-profit organization that carries out projects to preserve the Holy Places, support local communities and bring aid in humanitarian emergencies.
ATS is present in the Middle East, wherever the Franciscan friars of the Custody of the Holy Land are.

About the TERRA SANCTA MUSEUM
The Terra Sancta Museum (TSM) is located in the heart of the old city of Jerusalem and exhibits Christianity’s archaeological and artistic heritage, which has been carefully preserved for 800 years by the Franciscans. In 2016, ATS- in close cooperation with the Custody of the Holy Land- has promoted the opening of the TSM (Terra Sancta Museum) intending to foster mutual understanding, respect and peace values among people and to create an international platform for acceptance and tolerance. This is the first of its kind Museum promoting Jerusalem as an inclusive and open City for everybody: it covers 4000 years of history with a unique approach. TSM is a high profile international museum that has been employing outstanding skills from a number of renowned museums across the world but still deeply rooted in the Palestinian local community.
The project “A Community Living Museum for Palestinian Youth” (ENI/2019/407-798) is aimed at offering a comprehensive learning and educational program for children, families, youth and students, promoting the potential of the museum as a friendly learning space. In order to achieve these goals a network of public schools, CBOs and museums of East Jerusalem will be established and engaged in raising awareness on the museum’s activities and its potential for the socio-economic growth of the community. Finally, in order to create a qualified team of the TSM, on the job training for local young professionals will be provided both at local museums and abroad.

Job Summary
The SEM is recruited in the framework of the EU/ENI funded project “A Community Living Museum for Palestinian Youth”.
Your goal is to inspire and engage people with the history, identity and culture conveyed by the museum’s collections.
You will be responsible for the planning, development, training, implementation and reporting for all children’s and adult formal and informal learning programs, both at the museum and off-site.
You will work with teachers and partner organizations to develop high-quality experiences, and liaise with schools and groups to create activity programs.
Main Responsibilities
– Develop, implement and evaluate specific learning programs that inspire young people and adults to explore the museum’s collections and their own history and identity;
– Develop, implement and evaluate an educational toolkit for local schools focusing on the needs of 4 target groups (age 5-7, age 8-11, age 12-15 and age 16-18);
– Develop, implement and evaluate the activities for the local community and in particular to elaborate the TSM Tactile tour (with replicas and app dedicated to visually impaired people);
– Assist the PM in the selection process of other technical staff for the project with special focus on the selection of the 2 Junior Officers;
– provide the training on the job of the 2 officers at the TSM, follow up of the traineeship abroad proving advice and monitoring report on their performance;
– Collaborate and communicate with staff across the TSM, especially the ones directly involved in the project;
– Produce content for print and online materials and work to promote and heighten awareness of the Learning programs.
– Undertake other relevant matters assigned by the Project Manager.
Person Specification
Experience and skills:
– Minimum 5 years of experience working in archaeology, art, history or ethnographic museums
– Experience of working in partnership, with proven ability to deliver programs and other outputs successfully and in collaboration with others, such as museums, youth organizations, training providers and funders
– Demonstrated excellence developing and delivering archaeology, history or art learning programs for a variety of audiences, including family and teen groups
– Demonstrated experience setting strategic goals for public programs, prioritizing tasks to support these goals, and implementing and evaluating outcomes for such programs.
– Evidence of well-developed collaborative skills and of experience leading teams through complex projects.
– Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage activities within a museum setting.
– Demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively and professionally with different
constituencies, verbally and in writing.
Knowledge and Education:
– University degree or equivalent professional experience;
– Demonstrated passion for different audiences learning in museums and knowledge of current theories and practices, programming, and informal learning related to these audiences;
– Sensitive to the local cultures and faiths, with particular attention to the Christian communities;
– Full command of Microsoft Office Suite and solid computer skills required;
– Perfect Command of the English language. Knowledge of Italian and/or Arabic is an asset.
– A driving license valid in Israel is preferred
